Fishing is very popular at Iron Creek Lake, both from shore and by boat. The fish regenerate naturally and are also regularly stocked by South Dakota Game Fish and Parks. Rainbow Trout account for most of the fish populating the lake, but nice-sized Perch, Crappie and Bass can also be found. Fishing licences can be obtained from the store for both residents and non-residents for just one day or for a year of fishing privileges. The store also stocks an assortment of fishing tackle and bait, such as bobbers and nightcrawlers.

Fourteen-year-old Tom Ellendorf caught this exceptional 22-inch, 3.6-pound brown trout on Father's Day, June 20, 2004, at Iron Creek Lake.
